WHAT TO START WITH BEFORE THE SURGERY
Where did it come from and what is it used for?
Botulinum toxin is naturally produced by bacteria called Clostridium botulinum. Plastic surgery has learnt to use this substance to remove fine mimetic wrinkles and excessive sweating – not only in the armpits but also on palms or feet for example. In the case of wrinkle reduction, the substance is applied to the subcutaneous tissue, specifically to the mimetic muscle, where it temporarily blocks nerve endings and therefore, it eliminates neurotransitions in mimetic muscles.
Contraindications of botulinum toxin application are pregnancy, lactation, neuromuscular disease called myasthenia gravis, coagulation disorders, inflammation in the area of application, treatment by antibiotics or drugs for arrhythmia. The application must be preceded by a consultation with a doctor.

The application is gentle
The doctor smears the anaesthetic cream locally to make the procedure as comfortable as possible. Botulinum toxin is applied under the skin by thin needles, so you have nothing to worry about. The whole procedure is very fast and it only takes approximately 15 minutes.
Thanks to the thin needles you do not need to worry about any pain. The procedure is ambulant, so you can go home immediately afterwards. The administered doses of botulinum toxin are low, approximately 1000 times lower than would be toxic for a human organism, so this dermatological procedure of wrinkle reduction is perfectly safe.

Let the treated parts rest
Do not lie down at least 4 hours after the procedure, don’t bend over, nor mechanically rub or scratch the parts into which the botulinum toxin was applied. Also skip any beauty treatments, facial massages or solarium visits in one week after the procedure.
Although botulinum toxin is usually well tolerated, some patients may experience slight redness, itching and mild swelling after the procedure. These side effects disappear within a few hours after the procedure. Exceptionally some bruises may appear in the application area and they get absorbed in the next few days.

The effect of botulinum toxin gradually comes over three days and then it will finally become evident in up to two weeks after the treatment.
