WHAT TO START WITH BEFORE THE PROCEDURE

Have your questions answered

If you decided on liposuction, there is nothing to stop you from going to the pre-surgery consultation. You will be taken care of directly by a plastic surgeon at the Aesthevita plastic surgery clinic. Based on the visual assessment of your figure, the doctor will recommend you if it is good to suck out the fat from only one body part or if it is better to combine the liposuction of two or three body parts.

Liposuction is not omnipotent

Each organism tends to store fat in certain areas. For women, one of those areas are very often legs – the buttocks, the hips and the thighs. As we get older, our metabolism gets slower and the amount of stored fat increases. Especially true when no proper lifestyle is set and for less active people. Liposuction is not the method for weight loss but rather for body forming. It does not replace a good diet and a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, that part of the job is up to you but the liposuction can become your ally.

Right before the surgery

The date of the procedure is coming but before you step in to the operation room, you undergo pre-surgery examination with blood sampling and an ECG. Patients aged over 60 undergo an x-ray of the lungs as well, for smokers the age limit is set at 50+.

WHAT IS HAPPENING UNDER THE HANDS OF A SURGEON

Almost no scars

Sucking the fat out during the process of liposuction BodyTite is performed by very thin cannulas which do not leave profound bruises. Radiofrequency energy effectively dissolves redundant fat and its subsequent sucking is less traumatic for the body. At the same time, this energy has a very positive effect on smoothing the skin with cellulite thanks to warming the skin and the subcutaneous tissue. Moreover, it minimizes the creation of post-surgery haematomas and bruises. Stitching the wounds with absorbable sutures and application of sterile bandage come at the end of the surgery.

General or local?

The liposuction is performed under both local and general anaesthesia. The second option is more comfortable for the patients because there is no pain at all. If you decide for local anaesthesia for some reason, take into account the fact that you will have to bear the pressure of the cannula through which the surgeon sucks the fat out.

How much fat does the surgeon suck out?

During the liposuction, the fat leaves the body together with blood. Therefore, the surgeon can suck out only a certain amount. Calculate 1 % of your weight and multiply it by four or five. The result is the maximum amount of fat which can be sucked out during one liposuction procedure. Nevertheless, it is still true that the surgeon can suck out no more than 5 litres of fat during one surgery regardless the weight of the patient.

THE WAYS IN WHICH I CAN SUPPORT RECOVERY

Take a rest

The tumescent liposuction in combination with radiofrequency energy is less demanding for the patient and the process of recovery is faster than for conventional liposuction. But resting is still necessary shortly after the procedure and some bruises and swelling may appear. After you spend a week resting, you can return to your normal activities. You will be able to do sports and other physically demanding activities approximately 4 weeks after the surgery.

Compression garment – a loyal companion

You will need a compression garment for up to 6 weeks after the procedure. It prevents creating more bruises and facilitates healing. If you undergo the liposuction in a warmer season and you are afraid that your calves could be sweating in the compression garment, get one more so you have a chance to change it. The wounds need to stay in a completely clean environment shortly after the procedure.

The curves will gradually become visible

It takes time for the body to get into shape after the liposuction. You may not see the shapes you have dreamt of in the mirror right after the last bruise disappears, but with a little patience they will soon show themselves.

HOW IT WILL CHANGE MY LIFE

Keeping the good figure is not easily achieved

We are born with certain number of fat cells. Therefore, we cannot change the prerequisites for a greater weight gain. The fat cells behave depending on our genetic predisposition and on the care we provide to our body. Liposuction can get rid of the fat cells but it is not omnipotent. So, forget about the old bad habits in your lifestyle and let them to come back for special occasions only.

The fat is not stored in the treated areas after the liposuction but the body cannot be fooled. It will find another part where the fat can be stored. You know yourself the best. Do you eat whatever you want and still not gain any weight? Then you do not need to change anything essential. But if your weight changes with each calorie above your usual diet, keeping the modelled figure will require your effort. Compensate a sedentary occupation with regular exercise and try to change your dietary habits.
