Hip liposuction

Plump curves may have been an ancient symbol of femininity but the ideal beauty standard nowadays is different. Even men sometimes suffer from accumulated fat in the hips. Liposuction has become a popular and affordable way to permanently get rid of the excess fat in problematic body parts. Its accumulation in certain body parts is influenced by changes in the metabolism as we get older, by genetic predispositions and by lifestyle.

WHAT TO START WITH BEFORE THE PROCEDURE

Two and more parts in one procedure

If you decided on liposuction, there is stooping you going to the pre-surgery consultation. You will be taken care of directly by a plastic surgeon at the Aesthevita plastic surgery clinic. Show him/her the body parts that bother you the most. Based on this information, the doctor will recommend you if it is good for you to suck out the fat from only one body part or if it is better to combine the liposuction of two or more body parts.

Liposuction is not omnipotent

Each organism tends to store fat in certain body parts. Women usually have their fat stored in the buttocks, the hips or the thighs. On the other hand, men get bigger bellies and double chins and sometimes even hips. As time goes by, our metabolism is getting slower due to age and the amount of stored fat increases. Especially true when no proper lifestyle is set and for less active people.

Do not count on liposuction to help you to lose weight. This procedure aims at modelling the body and does not substitute a reduction diet and healthy lifestyle. Therefore, that part of the job is up to you but the liposuction can become your ally.

Right before the surgery

The date of the surgery is getting closer and you are likely to be imagining yourself in the trousers that are several sizes smaller than the pair you are wearing right now. But before you step in to the operation room, you undergo pre-surgery examination with blood sampling and an ECG. The patients aged over 60 undergo an x-ray of the lungs as well, for smokers the age limit is lowered to 50+.

WHAT IS HAPPENING UNDER THE HANDS OF A SURGEON

Almost no scars

The time is up, the procedure begins. The surgeon applies a special solution into the subcutaneous tissue at the very moment when the anaesthesia starts to work. Your subcutaneous fat will be dissolved better thanks to it and will be sucked out. A thin cannula that is connected to a device generating suction has a diameter of only a few millimetres. And the scars that will be left after the procedure are exactly of the same diameter. Stitching the wounds with absorbable sutures and application of a sterile bandage come at the end of the surgery.

General or local?

The liposuction is performed under both local and general anaesthesia. The second option is more comfortable for the patients because there is no pain at all. If you decide for local anaesthesia for some reason, take into account the fact that you will have to bear the pressure of the cannula through which the surgeon sucks the fat out.

How much fat does the surgeon suck out?

During the liposuction, the fat leaves the body together with blood. Therefore, the surgeon can suck out only a certain amount. Calculate 1 % of your weight and multiply it by four or five. The result is the maximum amount of fat which can be sucked out during one liposuction procedure. Nevertheless, it is still true that the surgeon can suck out no more than 5 litres of fat during one surgery regardless the weight of the patient.

THE WAYS IN WHICH I CAN SUPPORT RECOVERY

Follow a leisurely regime for a couple of days

The tumescent liposuction in combination with radiofrequency energy is less demanding for the patient and the process of recovery is faster than for conventional liposuction. But resting is still necessary shortly after the procedure and some bruises and swelling may appear. After you spend a week resting, you can return to your normal activities. You will be able to do sports and other physically demanding activities approximately 4 weeks after the surgery.

Garment that heals

You will be accompanied all the time by a compression garment for six weeks after the surgery. Take it off only for a moment – for a shower for example. It prevents creating more bruises and facilitates healing. When the scabs disappear from your scars, you can start with a gentle pressure massage. It will ensure the scars remain elastic and it will significantly help their healing.

The curves will gradually become noticeable

The body gradually gets into shape after the surgery. Do not be surprised if you have the impression that your hips have not been reduced as you expected even after a few weeks. It will improve but it may not happen until the last bruise disappears.

HOW IT WILL CHANGE MY LIFE

Keeping an improved figure is not a sure thing

The merciless fact is that we are born with a certain number of fat cells. Therefore, we cannot change the prerequisites for a greater weight gain. The fat cells behave depending on our genetic predisposition and on the care we provide to our body. Liposuction can get rid of the fat cells but it is not omnipotent. Therefore, lock the old sins of your lifestyle away. It is the right time to improve your lifestyle after a successful recovery.

The fat will never again be stored in the treated body parts after the liposuction. The fat cells are gone from there for good. But the body cannot be fooled by this. It will find other body parts to store fat; therefore, a good lifestyle is necessary for the long-term effect of the liposuction. Look closely to your dietary habits and think about when was the last time you did sports or went for a longer walk.
