Calf liposuction

WHAT TO START WITH BEFORE THE PROCEDURE

Have your questions answered

Whether you are decided on the liposuction or not, the pre-surgery consultation will help you. You will be taken care of directly by a plastic surgeon at the Aesthevita plastic surgery clinic. Show him/her the body parts that bother you the most. Based on this information, the doctor will recommend you if it is good for you to suck out the fat from only one body part or if it is better to combine the liposuction of two or more body parts.

Liposuction is not omnipotent

Each organism tends to store fat in certain body parts. For women, one of those areas are very often legs – the buttocks, the hips and the thighs. As we get older, our metabolism gets slower and the amount of stored fat increases. Especially true when no proper lifestyle is set and for less active people. Liposuction is not the method for weight loss but rather for body forming. It does not replace a good diet and a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, that part of the job is up to you but the liposuction can become your ally.

Right before the surgery

The date of the surgery is getting closer and you are likely to be imagining yourself in trousers that are several sizes smaller than the pair you are wearing right now. But before you step in to the operation room, you undergo a pre-surgery examination with blood sampling and an ECG. Clients aged over 60 undergo an x-ray of the lungs as well, for smokers the age limit is lowered to 50+.

WHAT IS HAPPENING UNDER THE HANDS OF A SURGEON

Almost no scars

The surgeon applies a special solution into the subcutaneous tissue as soon as the anaesthesia starts to work. Your subcutaneous fat will be dissolved better thanks to it and will be sucked out. A thin cannula that is connected to a device generating suction has a diameter of only a few millimetres. And the scars that will be left after the procedure are of exactly the same diameter. Stitching the wounds with absorbable sutures and application of sterile bandage come at the end of the surgery.

General or local?

The liposuction is performed under both local and general anaesthesia. The second option is more comfortable for the patients because there is no pain at all. If you decide for local anaesthesia for some reason, take into account the fact that you will have to bear the pressure of the cannula through which the surgeon sucks the fat out.

How much fat does the surgeon suck out?

During the liposuction, the fat leaves the body together with blood. Therefore, the surgeon can suck out only a certain amount. Calculate 1 % of your weight and multiply it by four or five. The result is the maximum amount of fat which can be sucked out during one liposuction procedure. Nevertheless, it is still true that the surgeon can suck out no more than 5 litres of fat during one surgery regardless the weight of the patient.

THE WAYS IN WHICH I CAN SUPPORT RECOVERY

Relax for a couple of days

You will feel yourself that the best thing to do is to relax in the first days after the surgery. It is important to let the calves relax after the surgery because you need them for movement. The surgeon will recommend you to stick to a leisurely regime for a week. The bruises and swelling gradually disappear within three weeks. In approximately 6 weeks you can return to sports and other physically demanding activities. Massage the treated area during your recovery. It significantly promotes the proper healing of the scarred subcutaneous tissue.

Compression garment – a loyal companion

You will need a compression garment for up to 6 weeks after the procedure. It prevents creating more bruises and facilitates healing.

Tip: If you undergo the liposuction in a warmer season and you are afraid that your calves could be sweating in the compression garment, get one more so you have a chance to change it. The wounds need to stay in a completely clean environment shortly after the procedure.

The curves will gradually become noticeable

After the liposuction, swelling of the body can continue to subside even for several months. The curves you are impatiently looking forward to when standing in front of the mirror will gradually be revealed. But they won’t be visible immediately after the last bruise disappears. Hold on for several weeks and the outcome will be visible.

HOW IT WILL CHANGE MY LIFE

Keeping the good figure is not easily achieved

We are born with certain number of fat cells. Therefore, we cannot change the prerequisites for a greater weight gain. The fat cells behave depending on our genetic predisposition and on the care we provide to our body. Liposuction can get rid of the fat cells but it is not omnipotent. So, forget about the old bad habits in your lifestyle and let them to come back for special occasions only.

The fat is not stored in the treated areas after the liposuction but the body cannot be fooled. It will find another part where the fat can be stored. You know yourself the best. Do you eat whatever you want and still not gain any weight? Then you do not need to change anything essential. But if your weight changes with each calorie above your usual diet, keeping the modelled figure will require your effort. Good dietary habits should go hand in hand with exercising. Even small things count – go for a walk and take the stairs instead of using the elevator.
