The lost years (at least in appearance) can be reversed. How can we do that? With a facelift. This kind of rejuvenation provides several ways of how to do it and the surgeon chooses or combines those that will be most beneficial for your face. A facelift is generally about the tension of the skin, the removal of excess skin on the face and the surgical solution of a superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS) of the face.

What to start with before the procedure

Consultation is necessary

The modern conceptions of aesthetic facial surgery combine facelift with eyelid surgery, brow lift, the application of one’s own fat and also with the neck lift in one surgery. Which of these procedures are suitable in your case and which may be unnecessary can only be assessed by the plastic surgeon. Make an appointment for the pre-surgery consultation which precedes every surgery. You will be taken care of directly by a plastic surgeon at the Aesthevita plastic surgery clinic. Ask questions about anything you are curious about. Among other things, the doctor will show you the area where he/she will make an incision and how much skin is likely to be removed. You will leave the consultation with a clearer image of the process and the outcome of the planned surgery.

Lifting is more powerful than creams

Significantly sagging skin needs a more effective tool than skin tightening creams. Regardless of what miracles they promise. Even a cream with strong tightening effects is not as helpful as the removal of excess skin and the pulling of sagging skin upwards which happens during lifting.

Right before the surgery

Before the procedure, you undergo a pre-surgery examination with blood sampling and ECG. The patients aged over 60 undergo an x-ray of the lungs as well, for smokers the age limit is lowered to 50+.

What does the surgery consist of

A facelift is usually performed under general anaesthesia. The surgeon performs an incision from the temple area around the earlobe and behind the auricle. He/she removes the excess skin and finally stitches the wounds using absorbable sutures and applies a sterile bandage together with an elastic headband.

Scars remain exiguous

Do not be afraid of visible marks. The final scar is thin, very inconspicuous and difficult to see. Facial wounds heal faster than those on the body because the face receives a higher supply of blood.

Overnight stay at the clinic

With respect to general anaesthesia and the complexity of the surgery, short hospitalization is necessary. It is usually a two-day stay at the clinic where you rest properly, the doctor checks healing immediately after the procedure and then discharges you for home recovery.

Resting is essential

It is recommended to stick to a week-long rest period after the facelift. So if you can work from home, make arrangement at work before the surgery to be out of the office for some time. Remember that you underwent face surgery and the healing process is therefore apparent shortly after the surgery.

Wear a halter

A special elastic halter will accompany you for two weeks after the surgery. Wear it because it has an important role in post-surgery recovery.

When do the bruises disappear

There is probably no surgery that doesn’t result in bruising and swelling. They are the body’s natural reaction and you should take them as such. They will appear on your face and neck after the facelift. Their disappearing is individual but it usually takes 2 to 3 weeks.

The sensitivity returns gradually

You might feel that your face is less sensitive in the first couple of months. Do not be frightened, it will return. The post-surgery recovery is simply visible in the first few weeks and then you cannot see it but your face is still recovering. The outcome is worth it.

Do not rest on your laurels. Even plastic surgery cannot stop time. Use quality cosmetics designed to tighten your skin after lifting. You can slow down the process of sagging which naturally comes about.
